Summer Reading and Writing Challenge

Summer is here! We have had an amazing year.

We are all doing the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge. I am very excited to get started on my summer reading. Some of the books I'm thinking of reading include:

I will share what I am reading with you here, but this is also the spot where you can share what you are reading with the class. At least once this summer, I would like you to share with the class about a book you have finished reading.

In your paragraph, include the title of the book, the author, and a 5 - 6 sentence summary of what the book was about. Let us know the genre and whether you would recommend the book to a friend and why or why not.

Check back often for comments and other entries from your classmates and Mrs. Essenburg.

Also, you are all amazing writers, so...WRITE! Write and share what you are writing with me on Google Docs or another way. I'd love to publish your summer writing on the blog.

  1. Dear Mrs.Essenburg,
I finished how to speak dolphin. It was a good book. At some points it was sad and at some points it was happy.

  2. Hello Deven!

I am glad you stopped by to tell me what you are reading. That sounds like a good book. Those are usually my favorite books, the ones that can make me laugh and also get me feeling a little sad, kind of like Mick Harte was Here. I will have to add it to my long list of books to read. Do you know what you are reading next?

  3. Dear Mrs. Essenburg,
I have been reading a lot this summer. I have read two books already. The first book is I Survived the Nazi Invasion 1944 by Lauren Tarshis. The second book is Magical MIx Ups Pets and Parties by Marnie Edwards and Leigh Hodgkinson. I am now reading Esio Trot by Roald Dahl. I have logged 405 minutes on Scholastic and I am almost done writing a story on the Emaze app.

    1. Dear Sara Jean,

Wow, you have been reading a lot! Those sound like great books. The only one I've read is Esio Trot because I love Roald Dahl, but they all sound great. Love to hear that you are writing a story on E-maze. It's such a fun website. I would love to see it when you are finished!

    2. Dear Mrs.Essenburg,
I Finished Esio Trot. It was a good book but I don't like how he tricked her. But I do like how Mr.Hoppy finally asked Mrs.Silver to marry him. Also I am writing about two monsters going trick or treating and the go in to the haunted house I can't tell you the ending but I think you will like it. I now have logged 445 minutes on Scholastic. The next book I am reading is Tales of Boyhood by Roald Dahl.
